As I launch my new consulting business which includes facilitating groups whether that be for strategic planning or to improve a process or service, I thought it might be helpful to share an occasional tip for a successful facilitation. The best facilitation is when it appears effortless. To create that look and feel there are a few basics to remember.
My tip today is that the sooner you ask the participants a question, the better! You want them to engage quickly. This creates energy in the room, lets them know this is facilitation and not a presentation, and you can begin to read the room.
This is one reason facilitators use ice breakers which I’ll speak to more on a future post.
